In Heartbeat we explore the direct link between the state of our body and the state of our emotions by using the dynamic movement practice of the 5Rhythms to melt frozen blockages in our hearts. When we free our bodies, we release what’s held in our hearts.
This is a journey into shadow country, into a land of forgotten feelings where we befriend our emotions and learn to express them with purity and directness. We reclaim the power of loving and create a map for uncovering a truly dynamic emotional life. This practice is for elders and young people, passionate dancers and reserved toe-tappers, people who like to show off and those who can barely show up, survivors of bad backs, bum knees, or broken hearts. The only goals are moving until we are moved, finding the still point within, and becoming free spirits once again.
Jonathan says: “With Gabrielle as my Mom, I have lived in movement my whole life, so it feels very natural to teach her 5Rhythms work. I became interested in it as a young child when I was fascinated by the energy, the buzz of men and women dancing in the workshop room. The 5Rhythms are my meditation, my way of taking time out to integrate the things that are happening inside me. They help me to find stillness, an emptiness where my head isn’t just racing. They become a form of prayer for me. The dance floor is where I make time to honor all of God’s creations, light and shadow. I love that I am able to share this practice with others. People come to class and give of themselves, and I create space for them to transform their struggles and emotions into authenticity and lightheartedness.”
