to help Southern Springs build a vibrant, holistic learning center.

The  12 Workshops

Tallahassee has  many caring professionals involved in healing and supporting others towards healthy living. These knowledgeable, diverse workshop leaders  have graciously donated their time and energy to support us. Remember:  space is limited -- register early. Seats are available on a first come, first served basis.

 

Leslie Hanks: Ayurveda, the Life Science, emphasizes her latest publication  and workshop series, The Joy of Eating: Eating Awareness and the Six Tastes of All Food, an interactive lifestyle workbook. Learn how Ayurvedic body types coordinate with their ideal food combinations. Hanks is the founder/director of Yoga Unlimited, a multidimensional yoga center and school. (Note: Class meets from 9:30-11:00 am.)

Anna Lee Alvarez:  Chinese Medicine and Women's Health. Traditional Chinese medicine can fill a lot of gaps left by Western medicine's approach to women's  health. Learn a completely different way of viewing menstrual problems,  menopause, and care of mothers during pregnancy and postpartum. Men are welcome. Alvarez, a licensed acupuncturist, is a practitioner of Chinese medicine and has had an established practice at the Healing  Center since 1984. (10:00 am - noon)

Wallace Boyd:  Save Your Life for Family and Friends. How to turn memories into  personal memoirs. Life lists, conducting interviews, enriching narratives,  writing authentically, organizing documents, and inexpensive self-publishing  are some of the issues that Boyd (actor, dancer, writer, Buddhist,  professional journalist and mass communications consultant) will discuss. Please bring a notebook and pen or pencil. (10:00 am - noon)

Rachel Kelley: Self-Healing with Yoga and Massage. Kelly will focus on using  both modalities of yoga and massage for relaxation. This process often helps people reach and release past trauma which has been stored somatically. Born and raised in Florida, Kelley has been practicing and studying  the healing arts since childhood. In 1993, she began teaching Iyengar  yoga and began practicing massage in 1996. (10:00 am - noon)

Len Worley,  Ph.D.: Only a Breath Away Ancient Secrets of Love, Transcendence and  Fire. From sublime Tantric lovemaking and Yogic meditation to the energizing breath of fire and visionary breathwork, the breath can be utilized to take one into unexplored realms of the sacred.  Worley, a transpersonal psychologist, has a private practice in Tallahassee. Mary Beth  McBride: Working with the Subtle Energy Fields. Learn about your subtle energy body including how to sense your own energy field and how to clear, recharge, and balance your energies. We will then apply  this knowledge in moving forward in your life, be it physical, emotional  or spiritual healing, values/work/relationship clarification or simply experiencing more joy in each moment. McBride is a graduate of the  Barbara Brennan School of Healing in New York, a four-year training program leading to certification and mastery in working with the subtle energy of our bodies and our world. She has been working as a physician's  assistant in ob/gyn and at the Veteranšs clinic for 20 years. (1:45  - 3:45 pm)

Leah Rains:  A Holistic Approach to Fibromyalgia Recovery and Management. The  instructor will discuss her own recovery from fibromyalgia syndrome  (FMS) which included allopathic and complementary care. Rains will give an overview of the holistic approach which focuses on improving sleep quality, boosting personal energy, and reducing pain through  safe and gentle means. Recent developments in allopathic drug treatments  will also be discussed. Rains is a licensed massage therapist and Karuna /Usui Reiki Master teacher, and has worked with many FMS clients.  (1:45 - 3:45 pm)

Richard  Marsella on Stress Reduction. This workshop will be packed with  interesting information and fun! Participants will experience a sweet serenity as stress relief pervades the air. Learn Dr. Marsella's ten psychological aspects for stress management. Dr. Marsella, also known  as the "Stress Doctor," is author of the book Welcome  to Stress Management. (1:45 - 3:45 pm)

Katya Taylor,  M. Ed.: Intro to the Basic Tune-Up. Get a renewing blend of healing  touch, movement, and self-attunement, along with partner and group  interaction. A creative and hands-on experience. Taylor, a writer and poet trained in massage, polarity, yoga, and expressive movement,  has been offering creative arts and healing workshops around the country since 1980. (4:00 - 6:00 pm)

Gretchen Hein: Parenting as a Transformative Practice. In the practice of parenting both parties are transformed. Wešll look at the joys and struggles, the "hows" and the "whys" of parenting -- the  larger picture of parenting -- and search for solutions that not only  affect the big picture, but the daily picture as well. Parents of all ages are invited. Hardin has been practicing the art of parenting  for 22 years and has worked as a teacher for the past ten years. (4:00  - 6:00 pm)

Susan Cerulean:  Writing Your Voice. In this time of planetary healing, all of  us are needed. Freeing our voices and our own understanding of truth is often all that's in our way. Explore simple effective writing techniques  to connect with and express our own inner voices. Anyone interested in writing is welcome. Cerulean, writer and wildlife educator, explores  the relationship between our own bodies and that of the earth through writing, yoga, mothering, kayaking and gardening. (4:00 - 6:00 pm)

Barry  Fraser: Embracing the Wilderness -- Inner and Outer Meditations in Nature. Learn to sustain those good feelings and rewards  from connecting with nature and let the messages we receive in nature guide us on our journey to physical, emotional and spiritual well being. Through guided imagery and nature-connected-activities, we  will bring into consciousness a sensory way of thinking and relating, and learn to let go of stress and problems simply by letting our  attraction to nature teach and guide us. We will learn to understand nature's nonverbal language as she speaks to us and offers her assistance  to us on our life's journey. Fraser, a licensed mental health counselor practicing for over 22 years, presently conducts relaxation and  guided meditation groups and has produced a series of CDs called Guided Meditations in Nature. (4:00 - 6:00 pm)
